In the very early hours of June 1, we loaded up our luggage and headed to the Phoenix airport. This was the first day of our 17-day anniversary trip of a lifetime! After several hours in the air, my husband and I landed in Newark, NJ where we met up with my parents to continue our trip together.
From Newark, we boarded a 7+ hour flight through the night and arrived at our first destination-Barcelona, Spain.
Since we traveled through the night and arrived at our hotel (Tryp Apolo) before check in time, we decided to just "freshen up" and push through the jet lag.
We walked from our hotel to the port where we would eventually board our cruise, and decided to utilize the double decker hop-on/hop-off bus.The only spot in which we were truly interested in "hopping off" was the La Familia Sigala in the gothic quarter of Barceona, truly a sight worth seeing.
While it was a nice way to see Barcelona in a relaxed environment, we were exhausted, and HOT. We enjoyed the scenery for a few hours, then eventually decided to just hop in a cab and head back to our hotel to check in....we just wanted showers and a nap!
Once checked in, we were told that our rooms had been "upgraded" which apparently means that we had a regular room, but with yoga mats, and a treadmill?! weird, right?!

Anyway, we showered and rested for about an hour, then headed back out for the evening. This time we journeyed through the infamous Las Ramblas, which is a pedestrian street full of vendors and restaurants.

After strolling through Las Ramblas for quite a while, we decided to sit at a nice outdoor restaurant in the heart of Las Ramblas for some dinner. We enjoyed lovely pizza and spaghetti, but the highlight of this dinner was definitely the Sangria, which my mom and I shared!
Overall, Barcelona is a beautiful city with amazing architecture and rich history. Although our time was limited, we enjoyed starting our vacation in Spain!
